Chocolate and Wine

We've had mixed results with attempts to pair wine with chocolate.  Most red wine pairs with savory foods. Chocolate is not savory. Sweet usually pairs with sweet. Most of you do not like sweet wine so chocolate usually doesn't pair. Usually. Sometimes it does. This is an interesting phenomenon.  We recently were introduced to artisan & local chocolatier Christopher Michael. Many of Chris' chocolates have savory elements that intrigue us and he has graciously given us samples of his chocolate creations. We will be experimenting with them starting Wednesday night until they are gone. Drop by and try the Sizzling Bacon Bar, or the Citrus Bar while you taste through a flight. If you like them, we will carry them.

Get In the Game - Taste Wine Like a Pro

We've occasionally invited good customers to drop by on Wednesday afternoons while we taste new wines. We've said it before - the best way to learn about wine is to taste lots of wine. The few that have experienced it have enjoyed it quite a bit. We are willing to allow up to two customers to "hang" with Roger as he evaluates new wines on a Wednesday afternoon. You MUST make a reservation to participate. You must be a known Wine Lab customer.  We encourage you to swirl, sniff, and spit (we often taste about 30 wines in an afternoon.)  You will be asked for your critical opinion.  Do not wear any perfume or cologne (this is good advice for whenever you go wine tasting.) EMAIL roger@winelabnewport.com if you want to make a reservation to expand your palate and taste like a pro. There is no charge.

Fantastic price on Arcadian wine

Many of you are familiar with Joe Davis' wine. He is a passionate and talented winemaker with OC roots. We have his new releases at fantastic prices for a limited time. Arcadian wines are consistently scored in the nighties.  Normally these wine run in the upper thirty dollars.  I've tasted all of these and they are very good. They are great wines to lay down, I recently tasted his 2001 and 2000 Pinot and it was tasting fantastic.
Availability is limited - please reply to this email with the quantities of wine you want by Friday, Aug. 7.

Arcadian Chardonnay 2006 Dierberg Vyd. $25.99 (Reg. $39)

Nice, crisp, young Santa Rita Hills / Santa Barbara style Chardonnay.

Arcadian Pinot Noir 2006 Sleepy Hollow Vyd. $25.99 (Reg. $35)

Great Santa Lucia Highlands style - one of the best AVAs in CA for Burgundian varietals.

Arcadian Syrah 2004 Westerly Vyd. $25.99 (Reg. $30+)

My favorite - after a few minutes swirling in the glass, it was amazing.
